FRONT ROYAL -- A Manassas man was charged Monday with malicious assault in a stabbing incident early Friday morning that the Sheriff's Office said left the victim with about 30 wounds or cuts.
The defendant, Joshua Christopher Profitt, 29, is being held in the Warren County Jail without bond after appearing in Warren County General District Court Monday.
The victim, Christopher Stephens, 22, of 3163 Freezeland Road, Linden, was taken to Winchester Medical Center by ambulance after receiving 30 wounds in the assault, the Sheriff's Office said in a press release issued Monday. The Sheriff's Office said Stephens was listed in stable condition.
Investigators said Profitt and Stephens knew each other, and the crime was not random. They refused to release other information on the circumstances that led to the stabbing.
According to the release, deputies from Warren County and Fauquier County were called to 3163 Freezeland Road at about 4:30 a.m. Friday to investigate a report of a stabbing.
Sheriff Daniel T. McEathron said in an interview Friday that Profitt was arrested at the Sheriff's Office late Friday afternoon while investigators interviewed him about the crime. McEathron gave no other details about the case.
The case is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Warren County Sheriff's Office at 635-7100 or go online at www.warrencounty sheriff.org
