WINCHESTER -- A man made up a story about a suspect robbing him of cash on the Shenandoah University campus earlier this month, according to police.
Benjamin Simmons now faces a charge of filing a false report for an incident he claimed occurred shortly after 4:30 p.m. on April 2, Sgt. Frank Myrtle states in a press release issued Wednesday. Police issued Simmons a summons Wednesday.
Simmons, 19, of Millsboro, Dela., reported to police that day that someone assaulted him and then robbed him of cash in the area of the 700 block of Wade Miller Drive, according to Myrtle.
"The investigation determined Mr. Simmons lied to police when he reported the incident," the release states.
