Two local students have won scholarships for excellence in leadership and achievement from The Comcast Foundation, according to a press release from Comcast.
Joseph Demski, a Sherando High School student, and Jacob Schuster, a Skyline High School student, each won a $1,000 2012 Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship in Richmond on May 2. They are among 53 high school seniors statewide who earned scholarships through the annual program. Comcast awarded $62,000 in scholarships to Virginia high school seniors.
"It is important that our young people are provided equal access to quality education in order to gain the skills they need to succeed in an increasingly competitive job market," Virginia Sen. Walter Stosch was quoted in the release as saying. "I commend Comcast for helping these fine students from across the state to achieve their dreams of higher education."
The Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program provides one-time $1,000 scholarships to students who strive to achieve their potential, who are catalysts for positive change in their communities, who are involved in their schools and who serve as models for their fellow students.
