A smorgasbord of activities will be available when "War Comes to Winchester!" later this month.

June 23 to 24 marks Winchester-Frederick County's 2012 Civil War Weekend.

"150 years ago, the Civil War came to Winchester and Frederick County with devastating consequences, not just for the soldiers, but also for the civilians caught up in the storms," states a news release from the Winchester-Frederick County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

June 23 will be the only day of the year for visitors to tour Clermont Farm, a working 18th century farm owned by the Virginia Department of Historic Resources, on Main Street in Berryville, according to the release.

Karen Hughes-White, director of the Afro-American Cultural Center of Fauquier County, will give a lecture, and there will be a tour of slave quarters.

In Middletown, the Valley Light Horse Cavalry will give demonstrations June 23 at the Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation, according to the release.

Also that day, the Pritchard House on the Pritchard-Grim Farm on Kernstown Battlefield will be open for tours. The battlefield will be open June 23 and 24, the release states.

The Rose Hill Farm, 1850 Jones Road, Winchester, will be open to visitors interested in living history, 19th century children's games and battlefield tours on June 24, the release states.

There are other activities taking place at the Newtown History Center, Stonewall Jackson's Headquarters Museum, Belle Grove, Third Winchester Battlefield, the Old Courthouse Civil War Museum and the Winchester-Frederick County Visitors Center.
