Driver ticketed in rollover accident

Daily staff report

A 17-year-old girl was released from the hospital within hours after her 2005 Hyundai Elantra rolled over at about 3:15 p.m. Tuesday on Stokes Airport Road just south of Va. 618, state police said.

State police Sgt. F.L. (Les) Tyler said Wednesday the victim was airlifted to Winchester Medical Center where she was treated and released shortly after 6 p.m.

Tyler said the victim was traveling north on Stokes Airport Road when she ran off the left side of the road on a curve, went over an embankment and overturned. Tyler said the driver was ejected and issued citations for reckless driving and failure to wear a seat belt.

Trooper A.E. Clark investigated the accident with assistance from the Warren County Sheriff's Office, Tyler said.

Since no one was injured, I can finally speak my mind without offending the family.

The young girl is a victim of her own mistakes. She is lucky she was not crushed by the vehicle.

Please parents, stop expecting the school system or law enforcement to teach your kids how to act.

It is your responsibility to make sure they learn how to operate their vehicle in a safe and courteous manner.

Every few weeks we read in the paper about some teenager in a wreck. And none of them are wearing seat belts. I don't get it.

Remember. It can and will happen to you. Buckle up.

Kids do stupid things. No doubt. What I'm wondering is why she had to be airlifted only to be released 3 hours later. I've seen what that bill looks like. I guess it would have nothing to do with a helicopter being stationed a few miles away and needing to be paid for.

i went by the accident and from what i saw she is lucky to be alive. wasnt much left of the car either, she had to be speeding too. it doesnt take much to lose control on that road and plus other drivers like to ride on the other side of the road around the turns on that road.
