Economic Partnership seeks photos for contest

By Sally Voth - svoth@nvdaily.com

A photo contest is expected to help the Winchester-Frederick County Economic Development Partnership market the region to businesses.

Entrants are asked to submit pictures of living and working in Winchester and Frederick County to the Spirit of Winchester Photo Contest.

According to a news release from the EDC, the commission will post a photo each week onto its Facebook page. A monthly winner will receive a $50 VISA gift card, the release states.

The first photo will be chosen Friday, according to the EDC's website.

The contest ends Oct. 25, and an independent judging panel will select a grand prize winner, who will receive a $500 gift card, followed by the first runner-up getting a $300 gift card, and second runner-up, who will get a $200 card, according to the release.

The winner of the "most spirited" award will receive a $100 VISA gift card. Winners don't have to have been recognized as a photo of the month or photo of the week, the release states.

The contest is open to anyone 18 or older, and photos need to be high-resolution and not have been commercially used, according to the release. Also, the photos need to have been taken after Nov. 1.

According to the EDC's marketing coordinator, Wendy May, the commission had a similar contest two years ago.

"Changes to this year's contest include removal of entry categories to increase creativity in submissions, the incorporation of Facebook for announcement of weekly and monthly winners, and online submission of photos at www.winva.com/photo," May states in an email.
