Ex-Winchester police chief accused of showing child porn

A former Winchester police chief who later helped lead the fight against online child pornography stands accused of showing "inappropriate material" to senior police officials in Florida in May.

Gary Reynolds, a former inactive reserve deputy with the Bedford County Sheriff's Office, served as the lead instructor teaching a course for senior police officials at Broward College in Davie, Fla., according to a press release issued Thursday by the sheriff's office. Reynolds was employed by the University of Louisville, Southern Police Institute during the course, the release states.

The Broward County Sheriff's Office in Florida advised authorities in Bedford on May 23 that "inappropriate material was displayed to participants of the class," according to the release.

Reynolds has not been charged with any offenses related to the investigation currently ongoing in Florida, according to Bedford County authorities.

Reynolds retired as chief of the Winchester police department in mid-2004 after leading the agency for seven years. Reynolds came to Bedford County after his retirement and worked with the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, known also as Operation Blue Ridge Thunder.

Hmmm a roster guarding the hen house maybe? Let's hope not, most times PG pictures are used to demostrate software and techniques in investiagating child porn. An easy enough investigation will clear that up. Let's hope it was just an honest mistake.
