Police: Suspect held in stabbing

A Winchester man is being held without bail in the Shenandoah County Jail after he allegedly stabbed a man in Strasburg late Saturday night, according to authorities.

Sergio Armando Mejia, 32, of 1116 Conway St., was arrested early Sunday and charged with public intoxication, malicious wounding and two counts of assault and battery, Shenandoah County Sheriff's Lt. Darcy Dellinger said.

He said deputies were called to a home in the 2000 block of John Marshal Highway at about 11 p.m. Saturday.

Mejia had pushed a 16-year-old Waynesboro girl into a wall, and stabbed her father, a 42-year-old Front Royal man, in the chest, according to Dellinger. Neither of the victims had serious injuries, he said.

Mejia is scheduled to appear in Shenandoah County General District Court on June 22.
