Recreation fees waived for Get Outdoors celebration
By Sally Voth -- firstname.lastname@example.org
As part of National Get Outdoors Day, many recreation fees will be waived Saturday in the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests.
"National Get Outdoors Day is a nationwide effort focusing on a single day when people are inspired and motivated to get outdoors, get moving, and explore their national forests and other public lands," a news release from the U.S. Forest Service stated. "This ongoing commitment of introducing children to nature through various programs supports President Obama's America's Great Outdoors initiative, and the First Lady's Let's Move! Outside campaign."
Fees will be waived for all day-use sites, but not for overnight campgrounds and cabins, group picnic shelters or sites run by concessionaires, according to the release.
Recreation fees were waived in January on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and will be waived again for National Public Lands Day in September, and Veterans Day in November, according to the release.
All of the national parks will also be waiving their fees on Saturday, according to Shenandoah National Park's website.
