This year's Children's Literature Conference at Shenandoah University in Winchester is set to take place Monday, June 25, through Friday, June 29.

Events will take place from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. each day, and will focus on the conference's theme "Books Boys Can't Resist."

Morning sessions will allow conference participants to study with award winning authors and illustrators including Avi, Gary Schmidt, Ralph Fletcher, Brian Floca and Melinda Long. In the afternoon, small group workshops, roundtable discussions with the authors and illustrators and other classes will be available.

Participants will also have the chance to earn up to three hours of graduate or undergraduate credit. Those wishing to do so must enroll in the either writing or literature section.

The writing section will focus on critical technique, and the literature section deals with education and the use of children's literature to teach reading and writing.

To receive graduate credits, participants must complete an annotated bibliography of children's literature or an in-depth research paper that looks at material discussed during the conference. The assignments will be due no later than Aug. 27 and transcripts will be mailed in October.

Books by speakers, authors and illustrators will be on sale throughout the week, and autograph sessions will take place daily.

To sign up or for more information on the conference, email infoclc@su.edu or call Dr. Karen Huff, coordinator of the elementary education program, at 545-7215.
