Three hospitalized in van rollover

Paramedics transported a Front Royal woman and two children to Winchester Medical Center Monday evening after their van rolled over on Strasburg Road a half mile west of Richardson Road, state police said Tuesday.

Rachel Bragg, 41, was traveling westbound in a 2001 Dodge Caravan when the van left the right side of the road and overturned around 7:20 p.m., according to Sgt. F.L. (Les) Tyler of the state police. The van came to a rest on its roof within a few feet of the Norfolk Southern railroad tracks that run parallel to the road.

Tyler said police and paramedics found an infant secured in a child seat on the left side of the van's back seat and a 4-year-old girl lying across the rear seat. Trooper C.P. Maddox who investigated the accident issued tickets to Bragg for reckless driving and failure to secure a child in the vehicle, Tyler said.

Tyler said rain was falling at the time the van left the road, but there was no indication that weather contributed to the crash.

Chief Richard E. Mabie of the Warren County Fire and Rescue Services said his department contacted representatives of the Norfolk and Southern railroad to warn the company about the danger the van would pose to any train traveling along the tracks.

Mabie estimated the company halted train traffic along the route for about an hour until a tow truck removed the van.
