A beauty salon and supply store and a discount retailer are scheduled to open at Winchester Station this summer in the spot formerly occupied by Borders.
Ulta is arriving at an unspecified date, and Five Below is due to open June 22 -- according to its website.
Winchester Planning Director Tim Youmans said he didn't have much information on the openings.
"Because they're re-using space that already exists, I haven't been involved in any kind of site plan," he said. "There wasn't a need for a revised site plan."
Instead the city's building inspections department was working with the vendors, according to Youmans. Building Official John Knight wasn't available Friday afternoon.
Ulta is a combination full-service salon and retailer of more than 500 brands, event planner Carolyn Sutphen said in a Friday afternoon phone interview.
"We are the largest beauty retailer in the country to offer the unique combination of mass to prestige products with salon services," she said.
Ulta also sells fragrances, nail products and hair tools, Sutphen said.
According to its website, among the brands it carries are Bare Escentuals, Benefit Cosmetics, Cover Girl, Dermalogica, L'Oreal, Lancome, Physicians Formula, Stila and Urban Decay Cosmetics. It also sells bath products and men's grooming supplies.
"We primarily focus on hair and skin [in the salon], but we also do offer make-up for special occasions," Sutphen said.
Additionally, facials and waxing services are available, she said. Products can also be ordered from Ulta's website.
Sutphen would only say the store would be opening this summer, explaining she couldn't provide more specific information. She said the Chicago-based company had 467 stores in 44 states as of April 28.
According to www.ulta.com, there are locations in Charlottesville, Northern Virginia and Fredericksburg, as well as in Hagerstown and Frederick, Md.
There are managerial openings for the Winchester store, according to the website, as well as several other positions, including esthetician, hair stylist and cashier.
Some positions are also open at Five Below, according to its website.
The site describes the store as "the leading retailer of trend-right, extreme-value merchandise to the teen and pre-teen market -- all for $1.00 to $5.00."
It stocks a wide variety of products, including sporting goods, games, bath and body items, candy and drinks, decor, books, novelty and seasonal items and stationery, according to its site. Brands include Hello Kitty, Disney, Spalding, Lego and Leapster.
