Valley Health adds new OB/GYN

By Kim Walter -- kwalter@nvdaily.com

Dr. Yi Li is closing in on the end of her first week practicing as an OB/GYN with Valley Health.

While Li will spend a majority of her time practicing in the Woodstock outpatient office, she will also see patients in Front Royal and deliver babies at Warren Memorial Hospital. She is already seeing about 12 patients a day, in between training for Valley Health's medical records system.

Her first Shenandoah Valley delivery might occur this weekend, she said.

Li's special interest is in high risk pregnancy. There is one Valley Health doctor specially trained in high risk pregnancies, but she is located only in Winchester.

"We can not replace each other, but potentially this is a way to keep patients from having to travel so much," Li said. Check-ins with the other doctor will most likely still be necessary, but having another resource for expecting mothers will benefit the community.

Li is bringing another change to Valley Health, in that she is now the only full-time female OB/GYN in Shenandoah County.

Before coming to the Valley, Li attended medical school at Beijing Medical university and received a doctorate's degree. in microbiology and Immunology from Vanderbilt University.

Li said she is looking forward to her new employment, as she can "focus more on patient care instead of the business side" of medicine.

She and her husband of eight years have a 2-year-old son and are expecting a second child in the fall.

"So far, the people here are very nice...not only the staff, but the patients," Li said. "They are listening to what I'm saying and I can already tell they appreciate my efforts."

For more information or to schedule an appointment with Dr. Li, call her Woodstock office at 459-1270 or the Front Royal office at 635-0760.

I'm so glad there's another option since Dr.
Damavandy left!!! Although, I really wish she'd come back.
