Valley Health System's Board of Trustees has named James T. Holland as its new chairman.
Holland's nomination was approved Tuesday afternoon, according to a news release from Valley Health. He replaces F. Dixon Whitworth, the chairman for the past nine years.
Holland, who was a top executive with O'Sullivan Corporation before his 1999 retirement, has been on the Board of Trustees since it first began in 1994. Before that, he had been on the Winchester Medical Center board since 1985, according to the release.
"I appreciate the confidence the trustees have in me and the scope of what I am being asked to do," Holland said in the release. "I am firmly committed to furthering the success of what has been one of the defining institutions of our regional community."
Valley Health CEO Mark H. Merrill praised the Winchester resident in the news release.
"He has an invaluable sense of history and is committed to Valley Health System's vital role in making our community an exceptional place to live, work, receive care and raise a family," he states in the release.
A U.S. Army veteran, Holland has an MBA from American University, according to the release, and had managerial experience with United Virginia Bank and at Booz Allen Hamilton in Washington D.C.
It states Holland also is on the board of directors of other organizations, including Virginia National Bank & Trust Co. and the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley.
Two long-time trustees, William F. Brandt Jr., and Harry F. Byrd III, were also confirmed Tuesday, according to the release. Brandt, who retired as the American Woodmark CEO is the vice chairman of the board, and Byrd, who is an orchardist and past chairman of the medical center's board of trustees, is the secretary, according to the release.
