VDOT plans road work for June 25-29


The Virginia Department of Transportation reports the following road work the week of June 25-29 in the region:

Shenandoah County:
Interstate 81


  • Mile marker 263.9 to 298, northbound and southbound - Debris removal and clean guardrail. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Primary roads


  • Route 11 (Old Valley Pike) - Safety improvement project at 5628 Main St. in Mount Jackson. Estimated completion is mid-July.

  • Various roads - Bridge cleaning. Single-lane traffic controlled by arrow board and signs. Monday night to Friday morning, 7 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Secondary roads


  • Route 623 - Back Road Project. Construction of new alignment Route 638 and Route 623. Daily blasting operations will occur. Traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion is fall 2012.

  • Various roads - Bridge cleaning. Single-lane traffic controlled by arrow board and signs. Monday night to Friday morning, 7 p.m. to 6 p.m.

  • * Various roads - Mowing and brush cutting.

Frederick County
Interstate 81


  • Mile marker 300 to 324, northbound and southbound - Debris removal, brush cutting and sign work. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

  • Mile marker 313 to 315, northbound and southbound - In conjunction with the Route 657/Senseny Road Bridge deck replacement work. Shoulder closures and intermittent nighttime lane closures for installation of barrier for shoulder closures. Estimated completion is mid-August 2012.

Primary roads


  • Route 7, eastbound and westbound - Close existing crossover at Route 656 (Morgan's Mill Road). Left lane closed, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is Aug. 4.

  • Various roads - Shoulder work and mowing.

Secondary roads


  • Route 657 (Senseny Road, Winchester) - Deck replacement work on bridge over I-81 from Millwood Pike (Route 522/50/17) and Berryville Pike (Route 7). Traffic switch onto new portion of deck on Wednesday. Single-lane traffic with 10.5-foot width restriction, controlled by temporary signals. Work begins the week of Feb. 27. Estimated completion is mid-August 2012.

  • Various roads - Mowing and brush cutting.

Clarke County
Primary roads


  • Route 7, eastbound and westbound - Install turn lane extensions at various crossovers from Route 635 to Route 660. Left lane closed, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is Aug. 4.

  • Route 7 Business (West Main Street) - Mosby Boulevard Project. Construction of Route 636/Mosby Boulevard extension and round about. Flagger traffic control. Estimated completion is May 2013.

Secondary roads


  • Various roads - Patching and mowing.

Warren County
Interstate 66


  • Mile marker 1 to 2, westbound - Sign inspection. Alternating lane closures, Thursday, midnight to 6 a.m.

  • Mile marker 1 to 13, eastbound and westbound - Debris removal, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Interstate 81


  • Mile marker 298 to 300, northbound and southbound - Debris removal and sign work. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

  • Mile marker 300, northbound - Sign inspection. Alternating lane closures, Thursday, midnight to 6 a.m.

Primary roads


  • Route 522, southbound - Paving from Clarke/Warren County line to Route 675. Alternating lane closures, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Estimated completion is June 29.

Secondary roads


  • Route 649 (Browntown Road), southbound - Pipe installation from Route 607 to 0.40 miles north of Route 607. Right lane closed, June 26, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Width restriction is 10-feet. Estimated completion is June 27.

  • Route 681 - Recreational access to Eastham Park. Pavement widening on Luray Avenue. Lane and shoulder closures, daily, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is Sept. 28.

  • Various roads - Pipe cleaning and mowing.

Page County
Primary road


  • Route 211, westbound (New Market) - Milling and paving from Route 305 to Route 11. Flagger traffic control, Monday night to Friday morning, 7 p.m. t o7 a.m. Estimated completion is July 13.

  • Route 340, northbound - Paving from Luray Corporate City limits to Route 661 (Sunnyview Drive). Single-lane traffic, weekdays, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Flagger traffic control. Estimated completion is mid July.

  • Route 340 - Bridge construction work over Compton Creek and Norfolk Southern Railway and approaches, 1.4 miles south of the Page and Warren County lines to 3.50 miles south of the Page and Warren County lines. Daily lane closures with flagger traffic control. Shoulder closures, 24 hours-a-day. Speed limit reduced to 45 mph. Estimated completion is fall 2013.

  • Various roads - Bridge cleaning. Single-lane traffic controlled by arrow board and signs. Monday night to Friday morning, 7 p.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Various roads - Mowing, pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Secondary roads


  • Route 603 (Fleeburg Road) - Naked Creek Bridge Project. Replacement work at the intersection of Route 603 and Route 609 (Naked Creek Road). Periodic temporary lane closures, daily, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is April 2013.

  • Route 686 (Smeltzer's Road) - Compton Creek/Norfolk Southern Railroad Bridge project. New alignment of Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Memorial Highway). Intersection of Route 686 (Smeltzer's Road) and Route 340, from 0.24 miles south of the intersection of Route 662 (Compton Hollow Road) at Route 340, was permanently closed on May 23. A cul-de-sac will be constructed at the west end of Route 686. Motorists wishing to access Route 686 will need to turn off of Route 340 onto Route 662 and travel 0.26 miles east on Route 662 to the intersection of Route 686. Signs will be posted.

  • Various roads - Bridge cleaning. Single-lane traffic controlled by arrow board and signs. Monday night to Friday morning, 7 p.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Various roads - Mowing, pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
