Deer-motorcycle collision sends rider to hospital

A 47-year-old man was hospitalized Wednesday after a deer hit his motorcycle on Interstate 81in Shenandoah County around 2:25 p.m., state police reported Thursday.
Sgt. F.L. (Les) Tyler said Daniel Eugene Mann, no address given, was riding southbound at the 286.75 mile marker when a deer ran out from the median strip and hit the side of his 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle. The impact sent the motorcycle off the right side of the road, Tyler said.
Mann was taken by ambulance to Shenandoah Memorial Hospital and later by medical helicopter to Winchester Medical Center, Tyler said. The accident was investigated by trooper J.L. Street, Tyler said.
