Sheriff's Office: Texting involved child pornography

The Shenandoah County Sheriff's Office has charged two teenagers with multiple counts of possession, reproduction, distribution and facilitation of child pornography in a case involving text messaging between the defendants.

Lt. Darcy Dellinger said the male, 18, of Mount Jackson, was 17 in May when he is alleged to have committed the offenses, and his identity is therefore being withheld. Dellinger said the other defendant is a 16-year-old Edinburg girl. The male has been charged with four counts and the girl with three counts, all involving the same child pornography offenses.

Dellinger said police learned about the crime from administrators at Stonewall Jackson High School in Quicksburg. The administrators informed the sheriff's office after they received a report of text messaging with "inappropriate" content being exchanged between the two defendants, Dellinger said.

Dellinger said the male was a student at the school during the incident but he didn't know where the girl is enrolled. He also said it is unclear whether any of the offenses were committed in school.

Both defendants are scheduled to appear in Shenandoah County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court on July 12, Dellinger said.

He said investigators have found no other suspects in the case.
