Utilities reported Wednesday that they have restored electricity to most of their customers.

Thousands of residents and businesses in the Northern Shenandoah Valley and Northern Virginia lost power when a storm ripped through the region last Friday.

On Thursday morning, Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative had 30 customers without power, with 22 of them in Frederick County, one in Shenandoah County, three in Winchester and four in Augusta County. SVEC reported in a news release that there was a slight increase in outages overnight due to the storm system that moved through the area on Wednesday night.

Rappahannock Electric Cooperative reported that it should have the majority of the 400 customers still without power restored by the end of the day Thursday.

Dominion Power reported it had restored electricity to 95 percent of its one million customers who lost power as a result of the storm.

Dominion Power, which has customers in Shenandoah and Clarke counties, reports it expects to restore electricity to the those without power in the Northern Shenandoah Valley by Sunday.

I would like to give a shout out to Shenandoah Valley Electric Co-Op and its efforts to restore power to us. We appreciate the efforts of their hard working employees that resulted in our getting power back in just 20 hours. Based on the horror stories I've hear from other jurisdictions this was remarkable given the severity of the storm.

But I'm still going to buy a generator.

A big heartfelt thank you to all of the men and women at the utility companies that worked long, long hard hours to restore power to the people.

For whatever reason our electric service is more susceptible to failure than it used to be. Will say the same thing I said here before, if you can afford a generator, start looking for one now. Don't be one of those dummies being told next time by Lowes or Hd "sorry we are sold out". Also make sure you research how much wattage you will need your generator to have to cover your needs.

I'm not a procrastinator so I will be getting a generator shortly. I am, however, someone who does research before buying and I do not buy in panic mode.
