I think the parents in the top picture should have gotten that little girl ear plugs. I can understand parents not wearing them but to make little kids not wear them no excuse!!!
They probably couldn't afford them after paying all the exorbitant prices at the fair. The real crime is someone is derbying a '58 Edsel. Standby for Diana to slam the environmental impact of this and ROFLMAO to blame it on the tea party.
....And I'm sure the usual suspects will be chiming in to blame Obama for the high prices at the fair.
No we all know its George Busch's fault!!!!
Rusty all I can say is - these people must love driving on I-81. Naturally I have a difficult time understanding the thrill here but what else is new?
I can't imagine taking a small child to such an "event". The lack of earplugs for this child borders on child abuse (due to ignorance).
I agree Diana and that ranks right up there to parents smoking in the car with their kids inside and parents not buckling up their kids.
Her hands are covering her ears. None of you know if she's wearing ear plugs or not. You might want to hold off the DSS calls.
speaking of the prices the derby is just an example of our welfare dollars hard at work !!! little johnny and sally will go without milk this week daddy needs to work on the derby car. i am sure most of you know what im talking about
No msm, I don't know what you mean. Just because someone chooses to be in a demolition derby does not mean they are on welfare! That has to be one of the most ignorant remarks I have read on here. You must have moved here from the city and think all "rednecks" are poor and ignorant. My family participated in the derbies years ago and we were not or have ever been on welfare. My children were well fed and clothed. We did it because it was fun. Quit judging people you know nothing about.
no i am not from the city i was born and raised right here and a bit of a redneck myself however i never said every one in the derby is on welfare but i get around the county a good bit and know of several people who are "self employed" and getting benifits who manage to have money to throw into a derby car and to those of you and you know who you are "YOUR WELCOME"
MSM- As far as the little Johnny no milk comment, you obviously know NOTHING about derbies or derby families. For your information, most people who derby find cars bound for the scrap yard and use them up, or cars collecting dust and rust in peoples yards. On the rare occasion we buy an old car, we use the same car 3, 4, or more times. One truck our team demolished was in NINE derbies before it was too used up. At which point we sold it to the scrap yard, where it was RECYCLED. (So much for an environmental impact argument) For safety reasons, the cars are drained of toxic antifreeze before we smash them. And when we finally scrap a vehicle, we use that money NOT our PAYCHECK or "welfare" to get a new car for the season. As a matter of fact, our team has just two cars this season, BOTH of which were donated to us. We STRIP THEM and when parts are needed, we swap with other drivers. And when building a car, we work on them for hours, together. Its a FAMILY event. Keep your comments and hatred and total ignornace to yourself.
Accually they where givng ear plugs away last nite -so there was no excuse for that child not to have them .
I'm doing a visual of the top picture with the young Taniagua girl. The adults in the picture look like they are trying to make up there minds whether they sould take the little girl away from the arena because of the noise.
The TOTAL absurdity of most of the comments above is no shock to me. Yes, derbies are loud. But they are also fun and entertaining. Any parent who takes their child to a derby KNOWS what they are in for. So how is entertaining a child and enjoying something as a family child abuse? I work with an audiologist. The decibel levels of many children's toys are FAR worse for their ears than a derby.

Studies show that increased attendance at motorsports events such as these will cause long term hearing loss. Plus the exhaust fumes ARE cancer causing. Who cares if it's a family event if it's causing cancer and making you deaf.
Plus you must be pretty stupid to crash a perfectly good car
If it was a perfectly good car, why would it be sitting collecting rust and dust in someones yard? Or on it's way to the scrapyard? And if you want to get technical EVERYTHING today causes cancer or other illnesses, thanks to the total oversterlization of our society as a whole. You don't get much more exposure to fumes at a derby event than you would driving more often with the windows down. And sure, prolonged exposure to the sounds could cause long term loss, but an average derby is once a year, for under 2 hours. The noise level at a derby is not going to cause any more harm than a lifetime of listening to music a bit loud.
If you try to use proper English or express any idea, you must be one of them city people.
If you express a concern about a child obviously in some kind of distress (such as the child pictured here), then you must be some kind of uppity type not allowing the "common folk" to have a little fun.
If you express a view about the environment or pollution (even though some of us know we are destroying planet Earth) you must be one of them there, "Tree Huggers".
If you try to raise an awareness about the health related dangers of eating animal flesh, people really go nuts, even though there is mounting evidence that connects disease and meat consumption.
Unfortunately people will believe whatever they want to justify their choices - regardless. Our politics are proof of that.
And if you have nothing to add to any conversation other than negativity, judgement, and disdain for the people in your community........ You must be that there Diana.
And if you have NOTHING to say, it might be Snarks!
"Negativity, judgement and disdain for the people...." !
What in the devil are you talking about?
See what I mean? At least TRY to make sense, will you?
Please Diana, tell us what you mean. I don't think we could take another day without reading another condescending, lame thought tagging, cause jumping opinion from little ole' you. Is there anything in this community that you wouldn't suck the life or fun out of?
Cancer has nothing to do with oversterlization. It's an irregular cell on a mission.
And OSHA standards on hearing protection would say the average decibel level of a derby could cause hearing damage in less the 7 mins.
The username says it all;TrullingFerLulz.
Don't feed the trolls.
I guess you can no longer have a civil conversation without being told you are "stupid" because you are "wrong"
People like you are the reason for intolerance.
have you ever thought that all these conversations are monitored by NVD. Maybe someone like "diane" is a charcter in the whole scheme of things. These opinions are are what keeps the paper free online. I wonder why we havent been able to see the winchester star free online for years....not that I'm missing that son of a b*&tch paper!!! ha...ha.
