Man indicted as repeat batterer against family member

By Joe Beck -- jbeck@nvdaily.com

A Warren County grand jury indicted a Front Royal man Monday on a charge of assault and battery against a teenaged family member.

The indictment identifies Michael Allen Gilardi Jr., 38, of 112 Scott St., as a repeat offender who has been convicted of the same offense several times within the last 20 years. A second count in the indictment contains a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The complaint against Gilardi accuses him of entering the kitchen of his home on July 11 and screaming at the teenaged girl "in an accusatory fashion." The complaint states that Front Royal police officer Jennifer G. Lowery was told by the teen that Gilardi "grabbed her by the hair and pulled her from the chair."

The girl said Gilardi "hit her head into the side of the refrigerator, then punched her" on the top of her head about 10 times before ordering her to go upstairs, according to the complaint.

The complaint also states that the girl was nearing the end of a two-week visit with Gilardi at the time of the incident and returned to her mother three days later. The girl told her mother about the alleged attack, and both visited the police department the next day to speak to Lowery, according to the complaint.

On the count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, the girl said Gilardi gave her alcoholic beverages on three occasions and told her to drink them, according to the criminal complaint. The complaint lists the beverages as a single can of "Lime-a-rita" on July 1; two cans of "Lime-a-rita" a few days later; and a cup of vodka "somewhere between July 5 and July 9." The complaint states she also told Lowery that Gilardi gave her a cigarette between July 8 and July 12 during her visit and told her to "try it.'"

"[The girl] advised that she did not want to fight, argue or disappoint her father, so (she) did as instructed each time," the complaint states.

Court records show bail was set at $500 secured bond on the assault and battery count and $500 unsecured bond on the count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Other indictments from the grand jury on Monday included a charge against Jammie William Rose, 47, of 293 Pine Shores Drive, of sexually abusing a child less than 13 years old. The criminal complaint accuses Rose of touching a 6-year-old boy on his bare buttocks as they were lying in bed together on Dec. 18. Bail was set at $5,000 secured bond, according to court records.

He's been convicted of this several times? Exactly how many times does he have to be convicted to lose visitation rights with this poor child?
