M&H to expand, add jobs

M&H Plastics Inc. plans to expand its facility in Frederick County and create 20 new jobs.

The Winchester-Frederick County Economic Development Commission announced the British firm's intentions Tuesday to invest $6.2 million and expand at its facility at 485 Brooke Road, Winchester, by 50,000 square feet. M&H manufactures plastic packaging for personal care and health care markets.

The company seeks to expand its capabilities in extrusion blowmolding, injection stretch blowmolding and high-speed decorating, according to the EDC press release. M&H plans to create 18 temporary positions during the expansion, increasing the plant's overall workforce by 76 percent, the EDC stated. The expanded 110,000-square-foot facility and equipmnt upgrades will increase production capability by 100 percent, according to the release.

M&H maintains its headquarters and manufacturing operations in Beccles, Suffolk, England. The company opened the Frederick County facility, its first in the United States, in 2005, and made a $2 million expansion to the plant in 2009.

Frederick County Board of Supervisors Chairman Richard Shickle and Patrick Barker, executive director of the EDC, lauded M&H's decision to expand its facility. Kurt Nyberg, chief executive officer of M&H Plastics, stated in the release that Frederick County serves as a "great fit" for the company because of the locality's "skilled and committed workforce."
