Pastor bikes to raise diaper awareness

Daily staff report

On July 8, Pastor Eric Shadle began a cross-country bicycle trip from Richland, Wash. to raise awareness for the need many children throughout the country have for diapers. Shadle also hopes to raise $250,000 to purchase 1 million diapers that will be distributed to organizations across the country who are involved in the effort.

Shadle plans to arrive in New Market on Monday, Sept. 3 and speak at the Seventh Day Adventist Church at 7 p.m. On Tuesday, he will ride through Shenandoah County with several community members, and plans to be in Strasburg around noon at St. Paul's Lutheran Church Day Care.

From there, Shadle will finish his ride in Silver Spring, Maryland on Sept. 5. The week after he finishes his ride will be declared 'Diaper Awareness Week in Virginia' by the Governor.

Ann McBroom is Executive Director of Edinburg's A Small Hand, an outreach project that provides help to infants in Shenandoah County in the form of a week's supply of formula, food, diapers, wipes and gently used clothing and baby items as donations permit.

For more information on Shadle's ride or the need for diaper awareness in the valley, call McBroom at 540-933-6313.
