Bond motion dropped in child porn case

By Sally Voth svoth@nvdaily.com

A man accused of molesting a toddler in Frederick County has withdrawn his motion for bond in U.S. District Court.

John Stuart Dowell, 45, of Santa Cruz., Calif., is charged with 12 counts of filming a child in sexually explicit conduct knowing the footage could be sent out of state or out of the country or transmitting the footage via computer, and one count of transmitting child pornography online, according to online court records.

Dowell was arrested after his sister turned in to the FBI in Florida last October a video alleged to depict him molesting a 3-year-old girl, according to an affidavit for an arrest warrant.

Court documents state Dowell also was seen in a video downloaded in Denmark and being investigated by the Department of Homeland Security Investigation's Cyber Crime Center. The victim's relatives identified the child and Dowell, according to the affidavit.

Dowell had stayed in Frederick County several times, it states, and the molestation was posted online. He also is accused of filming himself molesting a prepubescent girl, according to court records.

Dowell's attorney, Darren Bostic, filed a motion for the court to set "a reasonable bond" on Aug. 27, according to court records. He was then scheduled to have a bond hearing before U.S. Magistrate James G. Welsh on Sept. 5, but that was canceled following a Tuesday motion.

In that motion, Bostic states he was withdrawing the motion for bond "due to the fact that there are pending state charges and if the defendant were granted bond, Mr. Dowell would be held on said state charges, thereby rendering the Motion for Bond moot."

A jury trial is scheduled to begin Oct. 1.

I am sorry but this is a sick individual and does not deserve a bond hearing or any type of hearing. He needs to be put away and kept forever. He is an animal to do such horrible things to a 3 year old. He should not be allowed to step foot on God's green earth again. There is nothing that could explain this type of behavior with a child..a baby..send him to electric chair ASAP.
