Barricades, propane tanks and firearms seized after domestic dispute arrest
By Joe Beck - email@example.com
A tense domestic violence call Sunday involving barricades, firearms and propane tanks ended with law enforcement officers taking a New Market man into custody and charging him with four felonies.
Shenandoah County Maj. Scott Proctor said John Marshall See, 27, of 4237 Smith Creek Road, is being held without bail in the Shenandoah County Jail on charges of assault on a family member, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, manufacture of an explosive device, and assault on a law enforcement officer.
Proctor said Shenandoah County sheriff's deputies and a New Market officer responded after 6 p.m. Sunday to a call from a 30-year-old woman at 4237 Smith Creek Road about a domestic dispute involving a man with a gun. She reported the man was refusing to allow her to leave the property, Proctor said.
Proctor said she also told authorities that he had barricaded the driveway with barrels and had added "some kind explosive device with propane tanks" to the structure. The deputies and a New Market officer arrived to find "at least two propane tanks" in or around the barricade, Proctor said.
He said law enforcement officers spoke to the woman and arrested See "without incident." Proctor said she reported being struck and pushed to the ground during an argument that led up to her calling 911 for help.
A search of the property led to the seizure of a revolver and semi-automatic handgun, two rifles and two propane tanks, Proctor said.
See is scheduled to appear at 9 a.m. Oct. 2 in Shenandoah County General District Court on the charges of assaulting a law enforcement officer and manufacturing an explosive device. He is scheduled to appear at 9 a.m. Oct. 4 in Shenandoah County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court on the remaining charges.
Proctor said a protective order was also served on See in the aftermath of his arrest.
