Laurel Center hosting meetings, in need of donations

The Laurel Center Intervention for Domestic & Sexual Violence has numerous activities lined up for late summer/early fall.

A free group, "Beyond Trauma -- A Healing Journey for Women," will meet 5:30- 7-p.m. each Thursday through Nov. 1, according to a news release from the center. The group will focus on forms of abuse, how abuse impacts women's lives and healthy ways to cope while staying safe, the release states.

On Sept. 15, Dr. Matthew Karen and his staff at Exclusively Faces Cosmetic Suergery and Spa will have a 5K walk to benefit the Laurel Center. For more information, registration, sponsorship and donations, contact Karen's office at 667-3223, according to the news release.

The release also states the following items are needed at the center: laundry detergent, paper towels, toilet paper, bathroom cleanser, ziploc bags, white and colored plain T-shirts and gift cards to stores such as Food Lion, Martins, Wal-Mart and Target.

Donations can be dropped off 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m on Monday and Wednesday-Friday, and 9 a.m. to noon and 2-4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
