First Bank and Trust Company announced Tuesday that James D. Whitacre has been appointed as Assistant Vice President of Agricultural Lending for the Shenandoah Valley region.

Whitacre has a degree in Agricultural Economics from Virginia Tech and has 13 years of agricultural lending experience. He is currently Director at Large of the Frederick County Fair and has been co-chairman of the Youth Beef Show for the past 12 years. Whitacre currently resides on a farm in Strasburg.

First Bank AgCredit was established in 2002 and is committed to serving the unique needs of the agriculture industry in Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee. First Bank AgCredit is the only USDA-FSA preferred lender in Virginia and was ranked 27th in the nation by American Banker magazine.

First Bank and Trust Company is a member of the Virginia Agribusiness Council and was honored in 2008 with the Special Recognition of an Agribusiness Award.

Shenandoah University announced Monday that Rachel A. Carlson, EdD, MSBS, PA-C, has been named the new director of the Division of Physician Assistant (PA) Studies for the School of Health Professions.

Carlson is currently an associate director and associate professor for the university's PA program and has been a member of the department since 2002. She is also a physician assistant with Premier Health Resources in Winchester and has previously filled that role at Valley Health's Urgent Care in Winchester and Life Stages Family Care Specialists in Bellevue, Ohio.

Carlson serves as chair of the PA Advisory Board to the Virginia Board of Medicine and is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.

Carlson succeeds Anthony A. Miller, Med, PA-C, who will join the Physician Assistant Education Association on Oct. 1 as senior director.

American Woodmark Corporation announced Tuesday that Cary Dunston, Senior Vice President of Manufacturing and Logistics, has been promoted to Executive Vice President, Operations.

Dunston will assume leadership of American Woodmark's operations, including sales and marketing, manufacturing and logistics, quality, product development and purchasing.

American Woodmark Corporation, which is headquartered in Winchester, manufactures and distributes kitchen cabinets and vanities for the remodeling and new home construction markets.

The Independent Community Bankers of America recently recognized First Bank in Strasburg for 60 years as a member of the ICBA.

ICBA is the only national trade association dedicated exclusively to serving the needs of more than 7,000 of the nation's community banks. Of the 7,000 community banks, nearly 5,000 are ICBA members.
