Medical center visitor charged with assaulting officers

Winchester police arrested a 24-year-old Mount Jackson man at Winchester Medical Center on Thursday and charged him with two counts of assaulting a law enforcement officer and several other offenses.

Police took Eugene Stanley Jr. into custody after they were summoned to the medical center around 3 p.m. on a disorderly conduct complaint. Winchester Sgt. Frank Myrtle said Stanley was visiting the medical center at the time of his arrest.

According to a news release from Sgt. J.D. McPeak, a security guard was escorting Stanley from the medical center at the time he encountered police. Stanley became disorderly as police tried to arrest him, according to McPeak. Myrtle said Stanley head butted officers R. Lewis and P. Clarke and attempted to spit on them before he was brought under control and taken to the jail.

Myrtle said neither officer was injured during the incident. Stanley also was charged with disorderly conduct, vandalism and resisting arrest.
