D.C. man killed in Wednesday cycle crash

His passenger treated at WMC, driver of Subaru charged

A Washington, D.C., man died when he and his passenger were thrown from a motorcyle during a crash Wednesday night in Frederick County.

The driver, Dmitriy Y. Medvedev, 36, died at the scene, according to a news release from the Virginia State Police.

His passenger, Casandra M. Strafer, 29, of Washington, D.C., was treated at Winchester Medical Center.

Police report that the crash occurred shortly after 8 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Route 50 and Gore Road.

"A 2002 Subaru Forester was westbound on Route 50. As it was making a left turn onto Route 751, it pulled into the path of an eastbound 2010 Triumph motorcycle. The motorcycle tried to avoid the turning Subaru, but the two vehicles collided," the release states.

The driver of the Subaru, Alphonso F. Hawkins, 74, of Gore, was charged with reckless driving. He was not injured.
