A fire during a raging thunderstorm destroyed a trailer home at 14 Lexie Lane in Front Royal Thursday night.
Fire Chief Richard Mabie said in a news release Friday that firefighters from five stations arrived at the scene at 10:02 p.m. to find smoke coming from the rear window of the trailer near the North Fork Campground. Mabie said the occupants, Dwayne Ridenour and his wife, were alerted to the fire when the residence lost power.
As they tried to determine what caused the outage, they noticed smoke and fire coming from the trailer's rear window, Mabie said.
He said the Ridenours escaped injury, but they lost several pets in the fire, including a bird and cat. The fire caused an estimated $45,000 damage, Mabie said. He said the Red Cross provided assistance to the family in the aftermath of the fire.
