Motorcycle crash victim remains in critical condition

Clarification: Wanda Darr, mother of motorcycle crash victim Larry E. Darr, said Tuesday that some fund-raising events have been approved by another member of the family.

Daily staff report

A Front Royal man seriously injured on Sept. 22 following a motorcycle accident on Rivermont Road in Front Royal remains in critical but stable condition at Inova Fairfax Hospital.

Larry E. Darr, 43, was flown to Inova after his motorcycle sideswiped a state police car driven by senior trooper R.L Fiorvanti, according to a state police report.

Darr's mother, Wanda Darr of Strasburg, said Monday that her son is in the Inova Shock Trauma Intensive Care Unit.

"The doctors there have told us that with time, strength and his will" that he will be all right, Wanda Darr said, adding, "The doctors say it's up to him."

She added that the family is asking for prayers. She mentioned that she has seen reports about her son in other local media and she called them untrue.

"Our family doesn't need unauthorized people making untrue statements about my son to the press," she said, adding that at this time they are not asking anyone to sponsor any fund-raising events. That time, she said, may come later, but right now "all we're asking for is prayers. We need prayer and more prayers. The more prayers the better."

Larry E. Darr's accident on Sept. 22 occurred shortly after another motorcycle accident on that same road had killed Ricky V. Cromer, 52, of Front Royal. Cromer was thrown from his motorcycle after running off the road and striking a campaign sign, according to state police. Cromer died at Winchester Medical Center that evening. Senior trooper Fiorvanti was on his way to the scene of that crash when Darr's motorcycle sideswiped the police cruiser, according to state police.

Wanda, I will continue to send my prayers. I hope when Larry is better and past this the truth comes out. I don't think we are getting the truth from the Trooper. He was responding with lights and siren on and driving at a high rate of speed...but Larry is the one who crossed the center line!!..I find that hard to believe. Maybe the dash camera will hold the truth.
