Businesswoman brings Heart Link to Woodstock women

By Sally Voth

Shenandoah County's latest Heart Link Network chapter was born earlier this month.

Sarona Irvin, a Juice Plus distributor, decided to start a branch of the networking group for businesswomen after attending a Strasburg meeting hosted by Jennifer Roszelle.

"I really liked the format and all," Irvin said. "I went back to one or two of hers."

She also attended two Heart Link meetings in Harrisonburg.
"Then, I decided that Woodstock could use one," Irvin said.

At the meetings, women get 3 minutes to pitch their business to the others in attendance.

"That's [my business] really where my passion is," said Irvin.

Only one representative from any particular business can give a speech at any one meeting, she said.

Irvin's first meetings -- lunch and dinner -- were on Nov. 5, and the next one is Dec. 4.

A local attorney is hosting the lunch meetings, while the dinner ones are held at a Mexican restaurant, said Irvin, who is also the chief deputy clerk for the Shenandoah County Circuit Court.

She said there are incentives for registering for six months' or 12 months' worth of meetings, such as lower costs and more advertising for their business.

It's thought the members will at some point end up needing the others' products, or knowing someone who does.

"We pretty much do business with who we trust and who we know, so by getting together and getting to know each other and have that fellowship, you learn about what each others' doing," Irvin said. "That's the real focus. The hearts get linked by getting to know each other."
