Fort Valley man charged in Friday robbery

Shenandoah County deputies have arrested one of two suspects sought in a strong-armed robbery Friday morning in Mount Jackson.

Lt. Wesley Dellinger said Monday that Joshua Alan Kirby, 25, of 330 Boliver Road, Fort Valley was arrested Saturday in the Strasburg area and charged with one count of robbery.

Authorities are accusing Kirby of taking prescription drugs and a wallet containing $175 in cash from a man as he riding in a vehicle near the intersection of Stonewall Lane and Caverns Road at about 9:40 a.m.

Sheriff's Office officials accuse Kirby and another suspect of choking the victim and throwing him from the vehicle after taking his wallet. Dellinger said the vehicle belonged to one of the two suspects.

The victim was uninjured and reported the incident to a school resource officer at nearby Stonewall Jackson High School, according to authorities.

Dellinger said the victim was an acquaintance of the two suspects who had picked him up before the alleged robbery.

Dellinger said Kirby is scheduled to appear in Shenandoah County General District Court on Dec. 7.

He said the other suspect has been identified but remains at large.
