Hunter's Head Tavern in Upperville is now a two-star certified green restaurant by the Green Restaurant Association.
To receive a green certification, restaurants must fulfill certain requirements. To meet these requirements, the restaurant acquires points for sections such as water efficiency, waste reduction and recycling, sustainable food, disposables and chemical and pollution reduction. A restaurant must receive a minimum of 100 points to earn a two-star certification.
Establishments are also rewarded for serving local, and it is required that the restaurant be a Styrofoam-free environment.
Hunter's Head Tavern earned the most "GreenPoints" of any certified green restaurant in Virginia, according to Michael Oshman, CEO and founder of the Green Restaurant Association.
Green restaurants can add stars to their certification, with 175 points required for three stars, and 300 points needed to become four-star certified.
