Firefighters answered a call for a minor fire at a Massanutten Military Academy dormitory in Woodstock around 9 p.m. Thursday night.
No injuries were reported. Merlin Henkel, interim head of the academy, said the fire was quickly snuffed out with an extinguisher and damage was limited to an unusable mattress and smoke on clothing in a single room.
Henkel said the room was unoccupied at the time of the fire.
"It was caught immediately," he said of the fire. "The kids were safe, and they were moved to another room. We're moving on to business as usual today."
Henkel said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
