Public meetings Nov. 5-9

The following public meetings are scheduled this week:

Shenandoah County
The Virginia Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting on a project to improve the bridge on U.S. 11 over Cedar Creek from 4-6 p.m. Thursday at the Strasburg town offices, 174 E. King St.

Mount Jackson
The Planning Commission meets at 7 p.m. Monday.

New Market
Town Council committees hold successive meetings beginning at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

The Tourism, Economic Development and Historic Preservation Committee plans to discuss and consider upgrades to the town website.

The Public Works Committee will discuss a financial report spending to date for the Shady Lane Street Improvement Project.

The Finance Committee will discuss and consider an ordinance providing for the calculation of personal property tax relief, the possible relocation of poling places for future town general elections and authorizing the distribution of employee Christmas bonuses.

The town Zoning Committee holds a special called meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday. The committee plans to review and discuss the planned development portions of town zoning ordinance.

Strasburg
Town Council meets at 7 p.m. Monday for a work session. Council plans to hold a public hearing on funding resolutions for upgrades to the town's wastewater treatment plant. The resolutions authorize the town to spend up to $24.3 million, though Strasburg officials anticipate approval for grant funding. Council will further discuss the matter but don't plan on taking action until after a second public hearing set for Nov. 13.

Council also plans to discuss:

  • A proposed water storage tower located between the Crystal Hill and Madison Heights housing developments near the end of Crystal Lane.

  • A proposed Pride of Strasburg Award for volunteers who helped build a new sanctuary at the Liberty Baptist Church.

  • A resolution of support for the town's application to the Virginia Department of Transportation for revenue sharing funds for improvements to Queen Street and the U.S. 11 bicycle/pedestrian path to Food Lion.

  • A report from staff regarding damage caused by superstorm Sandy to West King and Ash streets and subsequent repairs.
  • Woodstock
    Town Council meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. No public hearings are scheduled. Council will hear a special report from the Woodstock Enhancement Committee. Members will hear reports from other departments and agencies.

    Warren County
    The Board of Supervisors meets at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Supervisors plan to hear a presentation by VDOOT officials regarding the Morgan Ford bridge replacement project.

    The board's consent agenda includes:

  • An appropriation of funds for gap pay

  • An application to the Virginia Tourism Corporation for development of a new Virginia Civil War Trails interpretive marker

  • A two-year extension on a conditional-use permit requested by Linnea Cederholm for a country general store
  • The county Well and Septic Appeals Board meets at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

    Front Royal
    Town Council meets at 7 p.m. Monday for a work session.

    Council plans to discuss:

    The Water System Model and preliminary engineering services for a northern loop

  • The Capital Improvement Plan

  • A bad debt write-off policy

  • A request for donation of utilities for Toys for Tots

  • An annexation proposal by the Front Royal Limited Partnership

  • A resolution for a proposed park-and-ride lot on Shenandoah Avenue

  • Parking space leases in the Peyton Street lot

  • Acceptance of a land easement from Jack Evans Chevrolet Inc.
  • Council also will meet in closed session to discuss acquisition of property and a personnel matter.

    Frederick County
    The School Board meets at 6 p.m. Monday for a work session followed by a regular meeting at 7 p.m.

    The Local Emergency Planning Committee meets at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

    The Planning Commission meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

    Middletown
    Town Council meets at 7 p.m. Monday for a work session.

    Stephens City
    Town Council meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
