VDOT holds hearing on Six-Year Improvement Plan

Daily staff report

The Virginia Department of Transportation plans to hold public meetings across the state on the Six-Year Improvement Program beginning Monday.

VDOT will hold the meeting for the Staunton Transportation District at the Augusta County Government Center, 18 Government Center Lane, Verona. Agency officials will hold an open house at 6 p.m., then the public meeting at 6:30 p.m.

Meetings give the public a chance to discuss projects and programs in the six-year plan, including multimodal initiatives for highways, rail and transit. Representatives from state transportation agencies, Metropolitan Planning Organizations and Planning District Commissions will highlight their programs.

Visit www.virginiadot.org/fallmeetings for more information and to submit comments online. VDOT will take comments through Nov. 30.

A draft of the new improvement program will be available next spring. VDOT will hold public hearings before the program is finalized in June 2013.
