Man gets three years for attack on woman, children
By Joe Beck
Gregory Michael Anderson of 1492 Linden St. was also sentenced on a conviction for assault and battery to the woman's 3-year-old daughter and damaging a telephone in an effort to halt a 911 call to police by the boy.
Judge Dennis L. Hupp sentenced Anderson, 22, to a total of 20 years in prison, but his actual time behind bars will be greatly reduced by a combination of sentence suspensions, time already served and the fact that two of the convictions in the case were for misdemeanors. The sentence also included five years probation.
Court records say Front Royal police officer Donald Orye responded to a call from Gregory Anderson's home on Jan. 12 to investigate a report of domestic violence. Based on testimony later obtained from Teresa Anderson, police said Gregory Anderson told the woman, "I am going to kill you and your kids," while he was on top of her and hitting her, according to court documents.
Teresa Anderson may have suffered broken bones in her face from the beating, according to the court records.
Authorities said Gregory Anderson also attacked Teresa Anderson's son and threw her daughter against the wall of the home twice.
Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Nicholas Manthos said in an interview after the sentencing hearing that Teresa Anderson testified in support of a lenient sentence for the defendant.
"At the time of the incident, she was pregnant but didn't realize it," Manthos said. "Now the child has been born so they now have a child in common."
