A group of students from Hilda J. Barbour Elementary School in Warren County have come together for a three-day bake sale to benefit the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings.
Steve Ontiveros of Linden said his daughter Bailey was moved by all the stories of the children affected by the Dec. 14 tragedy.
"She came to me and said she felt bad and wanted to help," he said. "I mean, she's 11 years old, so I was kind of touched by her sentiment."
The bake sale will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the school bus turn around at the bottom of Apple Mountain, which is off the north side of exit 13 on Interstate 66. Ontiveros said the sale is weather permitting.
The whole family joined in with making cookies and cupcakes, and Ontiveros said his wife is making banana bread as well. His daughter has set a goal of $100 to go to the Connecticut PTSA Sandy Hook Fund, and she hopes to send the raised funds during the first week of January.
