Front Royal police said Monday afternoon they located a 9-year-old boy who had been reported missing at 8:30 a.m.
A police news release said the boy was found about a half mile from his home in the Marlow Heights subdivision.
Police said a trained dog from the sheriff's office and deputies were called to help search for the child after his mother reported him missing. Law enforcement officials used "A Child is Missing," an automated phone notification system that makes emergency calls to telephones in specifically designated areas.
Police said the boy was found minutes after a resident received an automated phone message and saw the boy walking on Prospect Street.
Police said the boy walked away from home because he did not want to attend school.
