LFCC: Tuition certificates available
Program provides opportunity to give gift of education
By Kim Walter
Friends and family of students attending Lord Fairfax Community College can give the gift of education this holiday season.
The gift to students would be a tuition certificate, usually purchased by a relative, according to Kathleen Knight, who works in the business office of the Middletown campus.
The certificate can be redeemed within one year of receiving it, and is only to be used toward the cost of tuition. Once redeemed, the amount is applied to the student's account.
Knight said the gift-giving opportunity has been available through the school for about 15 years.
Certificates can be purchased in person or by phone, and the purchaser chooses the amount -- LFCC does not have a designated amount for the gift. Payments can also be made over the phone, and the purchaser can have the gift sent in the mail if they wish.
"Many people want to cover the cost of a class or two, but they can always purchase it for a larger or smaller amount," Knight said.
Helping with tuition costs is perfect for this time of year, she added, because a new semester starts in January, and the certificates could be used right away.
Knight said no matter what the reason, the certificate is a great way to be supportive of the decision to continue in higher education.
"This is a great surprise in the 'ole stocking or in the mail," she added. "A gift certificate to food establishments or other stores are great, don't get me wrong, but to give a little assistance towards education is priceless."
To purchase a tuition certificate, contact the LFCC business office for the Fauquier campus at 540-351-1508 or the Middletown campus at 540-868-7126.
