Winchester teen dies in I-81 crash

A 17-year-old Winchester driver died late Tuesday night in a single car crash on Interstate 81 near the 304 mile marker in Frederick County.

State police said the the victim, Curtis Wayne Ross Jr., died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

State police Sgt. F.L. (Les) Tyler said Ross's 1990 Honda Accord was headed southbound on I-81 at 9:50 p.m. when it ran off the left side of the road, struck a guardrail, came back across the southbound lane then went off the road on the right side and struck another guardrail.

Tyler said Ross was ejected from the vehicle. Tyler said Ross was not wearing a seat belt and speed was a factor in the accident. The crash was investigated by trooper W.A. Connelly.
