Edinburg: Couple charged with child endangerment
By Sally Voth
An Edinburg couple are in the Shenandoah County jail after being arrested on child endangerment charges.
Shenandoah County Sheriff's deputies arrested Stephanie Michelle Lewis, 27, and Vincent Leigh Jones Jr., 30, both of 1318 Edinburg Gap Road, on Dec. 18.
Each was charged with one count of felony child endangerment.
Maj. Scott Proctor said the Shenandoah County Department of Social Services contacted the sheriff's office on Dec. 4 about injuries sustained by a 13- or 14-month-old girl.
"Evidence suggests that the injuries were not accidental," he said.
Because the case is ongoing, Proctor declined to elaborate on the nature or extent of the baby's injuries. He said Lewis is her mother, and Jones is Lewis' boyfriend, but was unsure whether he was the father of the infant.
Lewis remains in the county jail on a $1,000 secured bond, Proctor said, while Jones is being held without bail.
Proctor said Jones is facing some additional charges from another incident. He said Jones was taken to INOVA Fairfax Hospital in September, and while there, assaulted a Shenandoah County Sheriff's deputy who was assigned to guard him.
As a result of that incident, Fairfax County police charged Jones with assault and battery of a law enforcement officer and escape, according to Proctor.
Both Jones and Lewis are scheduled to appear in Shenandoah County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court on Thursday.
