Front Royal man charged with bomb threat against church

By Joe Beck

A Front Royal man was indicted Monday in Warren County Circuit Court on a charge of making a bomb threat against a local church.

Court documents accuse Paul Easton Jones, 64, of 541 S. Royal Ave., of making the threat by telephone at around 3 p.m. Nov. 5 to the Dynamic Life Church. Jones said he had placed a bomb in the building and was going to "blow it up," according to the criminal complaint written by Front Royal Police Sgt. Jason Ryman.

The complaint states Jones said the church was going to burn "for what it was teaching."

In an interview Wednesday, Ryman said the source of Jones' disagreement with the church appeared to be comments by Pastor W. Carlton Rogers urging members of the church to vote in the election.

Ryman said Front Royal police arrested Jones at his residence.

Jones is being held without bond in the Warren County Jail.

In other indictments, authorities charged Donald Ray Good Jr., 21, of Shenandoah with felony eluding of law enforcement officers and hit and run driving.

A criminal complaint written by Front Royal Officer Joshua A. Tanner accuses Good of fleeing on Aug. 28 after he attempted to stop Good on suspicion of drunk driving. The chase began on South Street and Royal Avenue, according to the complaint. Good turned right onto South Street, right onto Carter Street, and then right onto Tourist Street at a high speed, Tanner wrote.

The gray and white Volvo continued onto South Royal Avenue and headed south where it straddled the center line while passing between two vehicles, according to the complaint. The complaint states that one of the vehicles was struck in the mirror.

The fleeing driver continued speeding south on U.S. 340 until he lost control and hit a guardrail head on, according to the complaint.

Tanner wrote that the driver left the vehicle, jumped the guardrail and fled on foot. The complaint states that Tanner chased him down and restrained him. Tanner said he identified the driver as Good. A breath test showed Good's blood alcohol level to be .016, according to the complaint. The complaint states a later breath test showed a blood alcohol reading of .013, above the legal limit of 08.

Good was also charged with drunk driving, obstruction of justice, driving while his license was revoked, failure to carry insurance and improper registration, according to court documents.

He is being held without bail in the Warren County Jail.

The grand jury also charged a jail inmate with escape following his arrest in Howard County in late October.

The criminal complaint against Dwayne Roy Fincham, 28, formerly of 1330 Monroe Ave., Front Royal, accuses him of failing to show up in the jail kitchen after jailers sent him there to work on the afternoon of Oct. 20.

Authorities later announced the Warren County Sheriff's Office and U.S. Marshals Service had arrested him in Howard County, Md., after a two-week joint investigation.

Fincham was charged in early October with revocation of a suspended sentence or probation.

He is also facing charges of strong-armed robbery and receiving stolen property. He is being held in the jail without bond.
