Heather Tweedie


The certified public accounting firm of Hottel & Willis, P.C. in Winchester recently announced the promotion of Heather J. Tweedie, CPA to partner.

Tweedie has been with Hottel & Willis since 2003 and will join current partners Kerri A. Burkhart, CPA, William P. Hottel, CPA and James M. Vermillion Jr., CPA.

Tweedie, a Front Royal resident, is currently an officer with the Order of the Eastern Star, McKinley Chapter No. 19 in Winchester, and also serves on the audit committee of the Free Medical Clinic. Tweedie is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, as well as the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Tweedie has a degree in Business Administration-Accounting from Old Dominion University.

Brenda Beeler is now the owner of Liberty Tax, located at 262 East King Street in Strasburg.

L. Marquetta Mitchell, financial adviser with Edward Jones in Strasburg, will be hosting a seminar at 9 a.m. Jan. 16 at Cristina's Café.

The seminar will feature Ann Sallgren, CPA with Yount, Hyde and Barbour, PC, and Mark W. Botkin, attorney at law with BotkinRose PLC, as guest speakers. They will be discussing changes in taxes in 2013.

Call Tracey Shepherd at 465-2605 by Friday to reserve a seat. Refreshments will be served. Cristina's Café is located at 219 West King Street in Strasburg.

New members

The Shenandoah Community Foundation recently announced Adele Skolits and Patsy Morehead as new board members.

Skolits and Morehead will replace outgoing board members Clint Miller and Elizabeth Cottrell, whose current terms are up.

Skolits serves as chief financial officer and vice president of finance at Shentel. Morehead owns and manages Stover Funeral Home in Strasburg with her husband, Stanley.

Cottrell will be joining the foundation's advisory board, and both she and Miller plan to continue to be ambassadors for the foundation to the local community.
