The board of directors of the National Sporting Library and Museum in Middleburg recently announced the appointment of Melanie Leigh Mathewes as its new executive director.

Mathewes has served as the executive director of the Hermitage Museum and Gardens in Norfolk for thepast eight years. Prior to that, she worked as the events and exhibition specialist at the Norfolk Botanical Garden.

Mathewes joined the Virginia Association of Museums as council director for the Tidewater and Eastern Shore region in 2011, and she is also an adjunct faculty member at Tidewater Community College, where she teaches courses in art history.

Bruce Sigurdson of Winchester Environmental Consultants Inc. (WECI) has recently been reappointed for a second term to the American Society for Testing and Materials subcommittee on air quality.

WECI, a family owned business, provides industrial hygiene services as part of its indoor air quality program that identifies mold and other air contaminants, which have the potential to pose health problems.
