New Market resident Joshua Mayes bought a $1 million winning lottery ticket on Christmas Day.
The Virginia Lottery announced Friday that Mayes drove home from a family dinner on Christmas Day and stopped at the 7-Eleven at 10935 N. Valley Pike, Broadway. Mayes bought a Virginia's New Year's Millionare Raffle ticket, and his ticket was one of four $1 million winners in the drawing held on New Year's Day.
Mayes returned to the store Friday to collect his check from the lottery. The store also received a $10,000 bonus for selling the prize-winning ticket, according to the release.
Other top-prize raffle winners bought tickets in Springfield, Midlothian and Highland Springs. Four other ticket holders won $50,000 each.
