Public meetings Jan. 7-11The following public meetings are scheduled this week: Shenandoah County The board also plans to present employee service awards and hear reports from staff. Shenandoah County schools Superintendent B. Keith Rowland will give the board an update on state education funding. The board plans to discuss the new design for the county's geographic information system website. The Northern Shenandoah Valley Regional Commission will give an update on the Toms Brook School renovation project. The board may take action on committee assignments and a locality agreement between the county and the Virginia Department of Health. Supervisors also plan to discuss a compensation request by Charles Faust for a poultry kill. The Shenandoah County Industrial Development Authority meets at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday. The board plans to hear the authority's annual financial report from the treasurer and an update on general economic development activity. The IDA also plans to hear:
Edinburg Mount Jackson Town Council meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in town hall. The mayor will hold his open-door meeting from noon-1 p.m. Tuesday. New Market The finance committee plans to discuss and consider recommending to the Shenandoah County Circuit Court the reappointment of Bob Moyers to the Board of Zoning Appeals. The panel also plans to consider property maintenance codes and hear an introductory budget report. The public safety committee will hear a report from Jill Keihn, with the Northern Shenandoah Valley Regional Planning Commission, concerning the hazard mitigation plans for the area. The tourism, economic development and historic preservation committee plans to discuss and consider a town newsletter and redevelopment of the New Market website. The New Market Planning Commission meets at 7:30 p.m. Monday to elect officers and hear a report from the zoning administrator.

Frederick County The Board of Supervisors and the School Board plan to meet in closed session at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday in the county administration building, 107 N. Kent St., Winchester, to discuss real property acquisition for projects in the approved capital improvements plan. Supervisors then plan to convene in open session for their regular meeting at 7:15 p.m. At the meeting, supervisors will hold public hearings on: an ordinance to amend the county code pertaining to taxation and the filing of certain taxes, to eliminate interest on machinery and tools tax, to change enforcement provisions for the transient occupancy and meals levies and clarify provisions to the business license tax. Supervisors also will hold a public hearing on an ordinance to amend the code on zoning requirements in the rural areas district that would include a setback exemption for accessory structures.
