Driver hospitalized after I-81 truck crashDaily staff report A tractor-trailer crash on Interstate 81 in Shenandoah County at 3:20 p.m. Thursday sent the driver to Winchester Medical Center with undetermined injuries, state police said. The truck, a 2006 International driven by Joseph Bernard Landis, 48, of Culleoka, Tenn., was traveling north in the left lane when it ran off the road at mile marker 279.9, according to Sgt. F.L. (Les) Tyler. The truck swerved to the left and then into the median and went down an embankment, Tyler said. Landis was taken to the hospital by helicopter, Tyler said. The crash closed both lanes for 45 minutes, Tyler said. Both lanes were reopened by 10 p.m., he said. The cause is still under investigation.
