Frederick County School Board seeking applicant

The Frederick County School Board is now accepting applications for the Stonewall Magisterial District seat that became vacant due to the death on Feb. 4 of board member Jim Harmon.

Interested individuals must meet requirements established in the Code of Virginia, including that at the time of their appointment, they be a qualified voter and bona fide resident of the district. They may not be an employee of the school system and cannot hold an incompatible dual office.

The appointed individual will serve through to the end of the year, but an election to fill the seat for the 2014-2017 term will take place on Nov. 5. The temporarily appointed member may run for the seat..

To apply, submit a letter of interest and resume to School Board clerk Steve Edwards at edwards@frederick.k12.va.us.

The names of all applicants will be announced at a public hearing at 7 p.m. March 5 at 1415 Amherst St., Winchester. Information must be received in the clerk's office no later than noon on Friday, Feb. 22.

The board plans to announce the selected individual at its March 19 meeting, and the newly appointed member will participate in a meeting on April 3.
