Grass grazing demonstrations scheduled

Field demonstrations on stockpiling tall fescue are scheduled for Feb. 13.

Hosted by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service and Virginia Cooperative Extension, the demonstrations are intended to teach about grazing stockpiled fescue in winter and future planning, according to a news release from the USDA-NRCS.

It will include the benefits and drawbacks of strip grazing, evaluating the health of livestock and calves, and improving grazing management, according to the release.

The first demonstration is 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Bellvue Farm, Swoop, and is followed by lunch. Cattle producer Charlie Drumheller is hosting the demonstration, the release states. RSVP by calling the Augusta County Extension Office at 540 245-5750 by Friday.

Farmer Jay Hafner will host the second demo from 2-3:30 p.m. at Jumping Run Farm in Edinburg, according to the release. To RSVP, call Lord Fairfax Soil and Water Conservation District at 540 465-2424, ext. 3 by Monday.
